You’re with a group of people
Everything is fine. You’re casually talking, you make witty remarks, you laugh at the jokes that were said.
You respond, normally.
Then as if something smacked you right in the chest,
You realize, as you’re talking, people are on their phones, attending to more important things.
Social Media.
Social.
and you realize….no one is really paying attention to the now.
to the person talking in the now.
…………………..that person is you.
your voice falters. You speak up because you’re practicing something called confidence.
but it doesn’t work.
because the joke now is what happened on social media.
and you don’t know what it is.
and you don’t know why you even try.
and you don’t know why you even speak.
and then you stop speaking and no one notices.

until you fade out.
