Saté Kampar Brought Malaysian Food to Philly & it’s DELISH

Conveniently located on E. Passyunk Ave, Saté Kampar is a place where you can casually get together with your friends and enjoy some grilled skewers with beer (BYOB.) Even if alcohol isn’t your forte, you can always choose from their unique drinks menu.

Upon entering, you’re seated at marble-like tables with wooden chairs. The restaurant is adorned with vintage lightbulbs that give the restaurant a natural dim-lighting. The service is nice and the food comes out all at once, not a long wait time at all.

The curry (above) was one of my favorite dishes, they added just the right amount of spice and thickness to the chicken and potatoes. I would also recommend the tofu appetizer and the “Mee Hoon Goreng Bungkus” which is the rice vermicelli topped with omelet strips. The tofu was a bit dry in my opinion but my sister loved it. The vermicelli could be eaten as a personal dish, it has a smidge of spice but overall was my 2nd favorite cuisine.

Ah yes, the skewers! They come with 2 dipping sauces: a peanut sauce and a pineapple sauce. I prefer the pineapple sauce because it added a nice & tangy taste to the grilled meat. The tofu (again) was a bit dry, the beef was succulent and a bit chewy, and the chicken was so juicy and it just fell apart in your mouth. Overall, I would rank:

  1. Chicken
  2. Beef
  3. Tofu

In fact, the chicken skewers were so good, we ordered 5 more! As we were eating, the chef walked around to ensure that we were enjoying our food (which we totally were & we thanked her of course!)

Overall 4.5/5 stars for me! Go and get your Malaysian food now at Saté Kampar!!!

*Note: can we appreciate the fact that they sell coconut water FRESH from a coconut? Excuse the blurry pic, my mom wanted her coconut so I had to snap a quick pic.
