I’ve been contemplating skipping a blog post for this week but I thought otherwise.
I’m going to hit you guys with a quick update before I go into the Youtube aspect of this post. I never like making excuses, especially when it comes to doing things that I care about. EX: School work, dancing, THIS blog. But I’ve been busy… super busy with this semester. I don’t even have a job because dealing with a school setting is enough for my anxiety. But I have been doing things outside of my school work, projects, and studying for exams. I’ve styled for a fashion magazine on campus (launch is next week and I’m SO excited.) I’m also a part of a dance group on campus that I practice with weekly and perform with on stages. All in the meantime, I update my blog weekly and I practice editing videos.
So, through a self-evaluation, I am doing things. I’m pushing myself and I should give myself a nice pat-on-the-back because of it. Hell, waking up every morning is a step. Readers, don’t be too hard on yourselves because even the smallest steps count in this crazy journey of life.
YOUTUBE
As you guys may or may not know: I do have a channel but I obviously think of my blog as more of my platform right now rather than Youtube. Why? I don’t like the new Youtube and by that I mean – what has Youtube become? I know there are people out there that can agree with me.
Back then, Youtube videos were rated by 5 stars (yes that was a thing) and the quality was forever 480p. People uploaded videos from old cameras or even their webcams (guilty.) But most importantly, people uploaded for fun. Now, it’s very rare that people upload for fun. They upload for money. What the heeeeck? (10-year old Jessica screams)
Now more than ever, Youtubers are traveling and receiving a crap ton of free things to review. AND THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Because most of those Youtubers are creators and they know what they’re talking about. Some of those Youtubers have been doing this for 7+ years, they didn’t magically get all of this. They worked hard. What bothers me though, is when people join Youtube now JUST for the free stuff and money. (nonononono)
Stop it. Hard work and being genuine will get you far in life, trust me. Do it because you want to. Get creative, build your skill set, and do you. The videos I have on my channel so far are: Disney travel vlogs (which I’m still working on), BTS fancams, and the freaking fire noodle challenge (I did it sooo wrong.) I post these videos because I want to and I genuinely like editing.
My family and friends jokingly pointed out how some of my videos have orange lighting and asked if I was concerned about how they looked to other people. Why would I be? Room lighting sucks! But I’m not worried about building a target audience on Youtube right now. I post on there because I want to, not to build an audience or get “famous.” If people like my vids along the way then thank you, I <3 u. ((SMASH THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON))
But I’m not concerned about being sucked up into the money-hungry, new Youtuber vortex.
I just want to create.
With that being said, check out my new video on Youtube. (HAAAH! SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION)
