I believe in love.

*Needless to say, spoilers WILL occur. I’d advise you not to read ahead if you haven’t seen the film.*

On June 2, DC’s long awaited movie centered around the female heroine “Wonder Woman” hit theaters. Immediately, the film received high regard from the public and critics alike. I’ve recently seen the film myself and it most definitely did not disappoint. I could argue that it was one of the best superhero movies I’ve ever seen, and for sure the best DC has ever made.

There are a number of reasons why Wonder Woman was such an enjoyable film, but I’ve chose to narrow it down to five prominent ones.

Firstly, the plot and characters of this movie are equally as strong. Many films of this genre often have a strong plot with characters that do not live up to the hype. Another case may be that the characters are well executed and enjoyable, while the plot is lacking. Neither is the case for this film. A smart and riveting script is accompanied by such unforgettable characters, truly making this movie one of the best cinematic experiences you’ll have this year.

The women of this film are another aspect that make it stand out greatly. I adore the way the female characters in this film were created. They are powerful and able to hold there own throughout the entire film. Their performances are equally as powerful as the men in this film, and you never get the feeling that one gender is overshadowing the other. That being said, the beautiful feminist message within this film is just as clear. Diana Prince is such a strong role model for women of all ages to see on screen, and I’m so glad that she was finally brought to life.

Love stories in films have often become very cliché and can sometimes simply be a distraction from the central plot of the movie. The love story in this movie is not one of them. It is honest and not the type of romance that ever makes you sigh or roll your eyes. It made you want to root for Diana and Steve, while not taking too much away from the focus point of the film.

Even the minor characters in this film will leave an unforgettable impression. In fact, one of my favorite lines, though heartbreaking as it may be, come from a minor character. It comes from Sameer, or “Sammy” when Diana asks him what his career is in life. He says to her with very sad eyes, “Well I’m an actor, I mean I wanna be. But…..I’m the wrong color.” This is the first of many times Diana starts to understand the conditions of the human world. Everything isn’t as simple as she thought it was going to be. I love this line because it brings a sense of reality to an otherwise fantasy film. Like I said, the minor characters in this film are just as crucial to it’s plot and the main faces. Without them, a piece of this film would definitely have been missing.

Lastly, I liked how this filmed opened up a huge discussion about the human condition. What really makes good and evil, and how morality truly isn’t just black and white. The films portrays a clear message that no one is perfect and everyone has flaws. It also shows how the human condition can be greatly affected by war. The setting of war can change a person’s moral code & greatly effect one’s actions, and this film makes that quite clear. The audience goes on a journey with Diana, learning as much about humans as she does. Or rather, the parts of humankind that many choose to forget about.

This film is so amazing I could go on talking about until 2018. You won’t regret seeing this film, I promise you. It’s just a fun, exhilarating experience from start to finish. I cannot wait to see what DC has to offer to moviegoers next.
